12 gauge speaker wire is thicker than both 14 gauge speaker wire and 16 gauge speaker wire. 12 gauge speaker wire is the thickest speaker cable that can be used with many speaker wire connectors. However, keep in mind that the thicker the cable, the fewer separate wires you can fit into the same amount of space.
